According to our Country Share Tracker (CST) service, the French mobile phone market grew +2% year-on-year in Q2 2012. While the sovereign debt crisis in strangling growth across much of Western Europe, the French market continues to be buoyed by the arrival of Free Mobile in Q1, which brought an aggressive pricing strategy the incumbent carriers are being forced to respond to. Samsung is the clear leader in the French cellphone market, where the Korean vendor has the deepest distribution, attracts some of the largest subsidies from carriers, and it spends big on marketing.
